Radio Frequency

The RF Seekers ETA of the CW ITP, primarily considers and components, technologies and algorithmic techniques which offer a benefit to the design and development of RF Seekers applicable to missile systems. Essentially, the domain seeks research proposals which offer potential benefits in the four key areas:

  • Improve integration while offering multirole and multimode capacities to the seeker
  • Recurring and ownership cost efficient solutions for very high performance products as well as disruptive solutions for lower seeker performances
  • Technologies and algorithmic techniques to provide better accuracy and stability in target detection, recognition and terminal guidance
  • Development of algorithmic techniques to improve target recognition/identification and offer Battle Damage Assessment or Indication (BDA or BDI) capability

RF Seekers Innovation Lead

Thomas Merlet, graduated from ESPCI Paris Tech in 1993 and Doctor in Microwave Photonics from Paris XI University in 1997, he started his carrier with Surface Radar Division at Thales in Limours, France. He developed several disruptive technologies related to photonics, microwave and Antennas, including Active Electronically Steered Antennas (AESA).
Since 2013, he joined the Missile Electronics Sector at Thales in Elancourt, France in the position of Innovation Lead. He is currently the Deputy Director of Future Product & Innovation for Missile Electronics. He has also created a joint lab LATERAL with the academic partner Lab-STICC in Britany, France and is managing this partnership.
Recently, he became the Hardware Key Technical Domain Lead for the benefice of the Global Business Unit Land & Air Systems, a transverse expert role through Thales Group in the field of Hardware.
